How Do You Install A Pet Door
The dog door or cat door is mounted in a new pane which will be installed exactly the same way as the original glass.
How do you install a pet door. Remove the pet door template from the package. Make sure it sits flush against the door. Most pet doors include a template for placement. Next you ll need to secure the doggie door to the exterior door by attaching the screws into the predrilled holes.
If your pet door doesn t include a template use the plastic slide as a template. Place the template in the desired location on the door at least 3 inches above the bottom edge of the door. Cut out the template openings as shown in the directions that come with the kit using scissors. To install a plexidor pet door through glass an installer will come to your house and measure the width thickness and height of your existing pane.
Cut the opening for the dog door with a hand saw. You may need to put several sheets of wood behind the screen door to get the pet door sandwiched between the screen and the wood so it does not move around easily. Start in one corner and cut along the outline you made with the template. From outside the house insert the side with no flap into the outer frame of the dog door.
Position the door so that the location of your pet door is clear of the sawhorses and the interior side is facing up. Once you install a doggie door in a glass door the slider of the door slides in its track against the sliding glass pet door panel. Hold the interior and exterior frames together with the flap in the cutout hole. The new panel that is inserted has glass on top and a pet door flap at the bottom.
Cut out the template as instructed. Tape the flap open and coax your pet through the door until he becomes comfortable with using the pet door. Sandwich the screen between the door halves. If your door is heavy have a friend positioned on the outside of the door to assist you.
Hang the door back up and begin training your pet. Once you ve removed all three pins carefully open the door and lift it off the hinges. Lay the door flat on a set of sturdy sawhorses. Put screws in the holes and tighten until frames come together but do not overtighten.
Take the two halves of your pet door or dog door and place one half behind the screen door and on top of your piece of wood.
