How To Measure Sliding Glass Door
Everything you need to know to take accurate measurements in your home before ordering a new prehung sliding glass door.
How to measure sliding glass door. The height is determined by measuring at the top of the bottom track the center and the bottom. Again depending on the style of your home measure from the header to the bottom of the door sill siding to the bottom of the door sill or edge of the stucco to the bottom of the door sill. If you want to measure it remove the wood trim first. Do this across the bottom middle and top.
To measure the height of a sliding patio door extend your tape measure vertically. If your old patio screen door is available simply measure the length and width outside edge to edge and give us those measurements. Then you will want to measure the height of the doors as well again do three measurements one from top to bottom on the left one in the middle and one on the right. Stud to stud refers to the 2 by 4 framing all around your slider door.
Write down the measurement. If your sliding screen doors are missing determine width by measuring from inside of side jamb to the opposite side of the center style just short of where the stationary glass begins. Write down the measurement. Measure the door starting at the inside of the side jamb and extend the tape measure to the center stile at the opposite end.
Measuring stud to stud is known as the rough opening or ro measurement. Measure from the top of the track at one end of the door down to the threshold on the ground with a tape measure. If it s 6 foot wide it measures up to 72 inches. Measure to the farthest edges of your door trim from left to right.
Proper measurements are critical to. Sliding doors are usually either 60 inch in width if they are 5 foot wide. Your door actually attaches to this framing. Be sure to capture both width and height measurements.
Go to your sliding glass door and take a measurement from the wall left to right of the door to the wall it is installed in. Measure the horizontal width from the outside edge of the door trim on the left side to the outside edge of the trim on the right side. Add 8 inches to the width to give the drapes 4 inches to. The height is usually 80 inches though it may vary from one manufacturer to another.
The smallest of the three measurements is the correct height. Measure from stud to stud using a tape measure. If your opening doesn t have molding measure from one side of the door to the other leaving extra space approximately 2 to 5 inches for added privacy.
