How To Paint My Bathroom Vanity Top
I did this in my master bathroom 5 7 years ago and it still looks great.
How to paint my bathroom vanity top. The paint won t adhere correctly to the vanity if you try to paint it as is and you ll end up with a subpar look. Whether you re the type who anxiously waits for sherwin williams and pantone to release the latest palettes each year or are merely tired of the 70s hue that dominates your vanity top painting over a laminate counter is a relatively inexpensive and simple way to change up the color in your bathroom. My first project was painting the vanity top. Because you ll need to remove the doors and hardware from an existing vanity this is a good time to upgrade the knobs and pulls.
I chose alabaster for my paint color which is a white with just a touch of warmth quick tip. Fill in any imperfections with wood putty then sand and wipe down the surface. Keep in mind i started on this project before i remembered to take pictures. Avoid egg shell or flat paint.
The vanity already has one coat of white water based kilz 2 on it as well as some of my gold base paint. To prep the vanity for painting remove all of the drawers doors and hardware. Apply primer for a smooth finish and leave it to dry overnight. When choosing a white paint color use a cool white if your vanity top has cool colors in it and a warm.
After the finish coat is dry seal it with a couple of coats of clear acrylic. When the second coat of primer is dry paint over it with a couple of coats of latex satin or semi gloss enamel allowing each coat to dry before painting another. For a complete makeover add a new vanity top faucet vessel sink and backsplash. For paint i used sherwin williams emerald urethane trim enamel in semi gloss which provides the durable surface you want for a bathroom vanity.
