Ice Build Up In Freezer Bottom

Ice build up in freezer bottom. Should the drain line become clogged the water has nowhere to go. Sheet of ice at the bottom in an upright freezer with automatic defrost a defrost drain tube clogged with ice or gunk can cause water to puddle at the bottom of the freezer where it forms a sheet of ice. This happens when food particles or other debris clog up the drain hose which can lead to ice buildup and eventually water leaking out of the freezer and refrigerator. Most modern freezers feature built in defrost cycles that will take care of frost in the freezer automatically so you needn t defrost it manually.
In the meantime boil hot water in order to use a turkey baster to speed up defrosting the coils. Remove the freezer covers to expose the frozen drain. The defrost sensor could be damaged. To access the defrost drain on your particular refrigerator unplug the refrigerator and check the refrigerator manual or go to youtube and find your model refrigerator and ice at bottom.
The bottom of our freezer was constantly filling with ice which would eventually start leaking out of the front of the refrigerator. Pour hot water down into the drain hole until you see the water dripping into the drain pan under the refrigerator. The real key was clearing out the ice build up in the drainage line. Clear the drain tube to fix this problem.
Here is how i fixed it. Unfortunately there will likely come a time that you find that there is a build up of ice on the bottom of the freezer. If ice is building up at the bottom of the refrigerator freezer this is most likely due to a blocked defrost drain. To unclog the drain you should first unplug the unit from the wall.
This is where the bucket comes in handy. The water from the melted ice and frost drains through a short tube and into a pan beneath the refrigerator where it evaporates.
