How To Install A Light Fixture With 4 Wires
Another major defect of series lighting circuit is that as all lamps or bulbs are connected between line l and neutral n accordingly if one of the light bulb gets faulty the rest of the circuit will not work as the circuit will be open as shown in fig below.
How to install a light fixture with 4 wires. If the light you are wiring is in the ceiling you should clean any cobwebs and dust before attempting to install your new fixture. Here you can see there is a cut in the line wire connected to lamp 3 so the bulb is switch off and the rest circuit is working. I disconnect this and connect the new light exactly the same way. Then take the red wire and the black wire from the 3 wire cable and attach them to eachother and to the black wire of the light fixture. Connect the two white wires from the light fixture to the white wire located in the electrical box by twisting an orange wire nut onto. Then just connect all your white wires together. There may also be wires of corresponding colors in the fixture that would be connected to the ceiling wires with wire nuts.
New 2 wire cable is run from the receptacle to the new light fixture. Using a wire cutter cut the length of the light fixture s electric wires to the length of the house wires. Wrap the copper or silver ground wires from the light fixture around the ground screw. The more lightbulbs the more wires.
If necessary use wire strippers to remove the insulation from the light fixture s electric wires. So when you get the canopy off you should see three three sets of wires black white and green or copper that need to be disconnected in order to remove the old fixture. At the receptacle the wires are removed and each one is spliced to the new cable and back to the receptacle with a pigtail splice. At the light fixture box the black wire connects to the hot terminal and the white connects to the neutral terminal.
Each lightbulb socket must have a separate black and white wire to supply electricity to the lightbulb. Remove old light fixture. Wire the light fixture with double wires to the power supply wires. Run nm b cable from the power source to a switch box and then to the first hole allowing at least 18 inches of extra cable to make wiring easy.
If you have an existing light fixture that you are replacing disconnect it before you begin the process of how to wire recessed lights. Unscrew the wire connectors the red parts in the image above and separate the fixture wiring from the ceiling wiring. In either case use the wire stripper to remove 3 4 of wire sheathing. The same is true for lights or switches in walls.
The black wire from chandelier was connected to four black wires in the box and white wire was connected to four white wire one ground wire was connected as well but the other three ground wires was tucked away unused.
